Riding a dolphin was a fantastic experience.

For the first section, the boto dragged him underwater, in order to avoid a swimmer or someone on the speedboats seeing them. The boto swam so fast that Furio couldn’t do anything but cling to his fin while the force of the water crushed him against his soft body. When he was about to pass out from lack of breath, the dolphin surfaced.

The distance they had traveled amazed him. They were almost in the center of the lake. Furio took some big breaths as the dolphin turned around him then lifted him up from below, and Furio clung to his dorsal fin.

It was fantastic. The boto rode the waves in small jumps, much faster than a Jet Ski. Furio couldn’t hold back a cry of joy, the wind whistling in his ears. His excitement was transmitted to the dolphin who began to jump higher. “No!” Furio cried. “I said no jumps. I said…”

Too late. The boto couldn’t contain himself and performed a fabulous jump into the sun. Furio faced the sky, and then the surface of the lake was coming at full speed toward him. Fuck. He took a deep breath and shut his eyes.

He crashed into the water, losing his grip on the fin. But he didn’t worry about this. The dolphin would find him. He was more concerned with trying to figure out where was up and where was down in order to emerge and catch his breath.

“You’ll pay for this,” Furio said when he surfaced. But he couldn’t deny that it was fantastic.

Furio wiped the water from his face, and he found himself in the exact center of the lake, near the islet. There was silence, because the noise of the coast didn’t reach there. The sun beat down on his cheeks. Where the hell was the boto?

Furio took a breath and dived. The water was crystal clear, a bright-green color that faded to a dark green and then to the black of the deep and scary bottom. The boto was quite low and was scaring a bunch of small fish of the color of quicksilver. He took some of them with his long beak and swallowed them. Then the boto saw him and began to swim toward him.

Damn, he’s beautiful. The boto swam with an ease and agility that bordered on magic. His body was full of energy and excitement. And he was coming toward him at full speed.

Oh, shit.

The boto overwhelmed him, hitting him and sending him adrift. Furio reemerged gasping, and the boto followed him. The dolphin opened his beak and looked at him, perhaps a little guilty. “Damn,” Furio screamed. “You cannot play with me like I was a toy!”

The boto rolled on his belly and then dived, and Furio regretted yelling at him. And if he couldn’t resist? The thought that the beautiful creature could suffer for something was unbearable.

You’re an asshole. He has a damn need for company, and there isn’t another boto here in the lake.
